North Kohala Community Access Group May 4, 2016 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm) Participants: David Tarnas, Tragohm Thoma, Jack Hoyt, Kamana Beamer, Charlie Anderson, Beth Robinson, Aric Arakaki, Carter Collins, Joe Carvalho, Ted Matsuda. •'• Kohala Center • ➢ Kamana Beamer, President of Kohala Center gave a presentation on the gift of about 50 acres in Nuilii. ■ There are about 24 acres of conservation lands and about 24 acres of agriculture lands that was gifted to Kohala Center. ■ There is a Hala Grove on the conservation lands, which they will preserve and try to restore it. ■ On the agriculture lands they envision growing native food crops. ■ He said that they will need volunteers to help with fencing the area. ■ They will seek community input on their projects. •'• Akoakoa Point • ➢ NSTR ❖ Hapu'u — Kapanaia ➢ Kapanaia ■ Campers are out of the Heiau area, but left lots of trash including vehicles. o Community members want to set a date for volunteers to clean up this area. •'• Halelua • ➢ NSTR. •'• Kauhola Point • ➢ GOE over old Halaula Mill Road. ■ What is the status of the GOE & our recommendations? — Need update from the Planning Department. •'• Pahoa Beach • ➢ We need update from the county Planning Department. ❖ Upolu Airport East ➢ We need update from the county Planning Department. ❖ Upolu Airport Restoration ➢ NSTR ❖ Puakea Bay Ranch ➢ Toni, Joe, & Keith attended the Na Ala Hele advisory council meeting to give a presentation on the Puakea Bay trail. ■ Repairing the original trail damaged by the 2006 earthquake is low priority and funds are not available at DLNR ■ The approaching trail from the parking area may also need relocating further from the cliff. ➢ The county trail that went around the house has been extinguished by the county. ■ This trail may be something that can be re-established. ➢ We should notify Planning Department that we would like to have access if the new owners go in for a permit.
