BANYAN DRIVE HAWAII REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> MINUTES <br /> October 25, 2017 <br /> The Banyan Drive Hawaii Redevelopment Agency met at 2:03 p.m. in the County of Hawaii, <br /> Aupuni Center Conference Room, 101 Pauahi Street, Hilo, Hawaii, with Chairman Brian <br /> DeLima presiding. <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Brian DeLima(Chairman), Nathan Gaddis, and Sigmund Zane <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT & EXCUSED: Elmer Gorospe and Barry Taniguchi <br /> ALSO PRESENT: Michael Yee (Planning Director), Daryn Arai(Deputy Planning Director), <br /> Amy Self(Deputy Corporation Counsel for the Agency), Lucas Mead (Planner), and Kim <br /> Tanaka(Secretary) <br /> A quorum was present with three members in attendance. <br /> Chairman DeLima introduced the members of the Banyan Drive Hawaii Redevelopment <br /> Agency, Planning Department staff, and invited interested stakeholders seated at the table. <br /> Stakeholders in attendance were Representative Chris Todd, Representative Richard Onishi, <br /> Mayor Harry Kim, and DLNR Land Administrator Russell Tsuji. <br /> At this time Chairman DeLima opened the floor to take statements from the public. <br /> STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC There were 10 members of the public in attendance. <br /> DELIMA: At this time we can take statements from the public. As you can see, we have an <br /> open discussion that's on our agenda. Does any members of the public that wish to make any <br /> statements at this time? I would be remiss if I didn't also recognize Councilman Aaron Chun <br /> who is in the audience, and all of the rest of the people who are here. So we have Kimo Makaio <br /> who'd wish to speak. <br /> MAKAIO: [phone rings] Sorry about that. Aloha. <br /> ALL: Aloha <br /> MAKAIO: Good afternoon. Again my name is James Lewai Makaio. You think I need the <br /> mic? Really? Okay. Again, my name is James Lewai Makaio. My background is that I've 20 <br /> years in tour transportation from 1972 to 1992. I then ended up getting a retirement plan since <br /> the union company is closed down so I worked for the State as a jail guard at HCC. Back when I <br /> was a tour guiin the tour business, I was already planning to see how we can improve the <br /> situation on the Big Island, so now that I'm retired, and since I'm no longer drinking alcohol, <br /> which is my preferred recreational drug, since I'm now sober, I'm getting a little angry of how <br /> Hilo and the Big Island has turned around.
