<br /> <br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br />MINUTES <br />Meeting Date: July 24, 2018 <br />Time: 5:15 p.m. <br />Place: West Hawai‘i Civic Center <br />nd <br />Planning Department Conference Room – Building E, 2 Floor <br />74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, 96740 <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Commissioners Present: Zon Sullenberger, Ann Kern, Bryant Ching, Jasmine Crusat, Mark Van <br />Pernis, Michaela Ikeuchi, and John Hetherington <br />Absent and Excused: Shaun Roth and Peter Dahlberg <br />Planning Department: Deanne Bugado (Planner) and Rosalind Newlon (Planner/Recorder), <br />and Bennett Mark (Planning Program Manager) <br />Applicants/Representatives: Chase Villafana, applicant and Matt Gilbertson, architect <br />Public: Lynn Sato and Claude Onizuka of Planet Fitness <br />A quorum was present, Vice Chairman Zon Sullenberger called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. and <br />the Commissioners introduced themselves. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Minutes of the Meeting of June 19, 2018. <br />Vice Chairman Sullenberger asked if there were any corrections to the minutes. No corrections were <br />offered and the minutes were approved as circulated. <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br />There was no one from the public who wished to testify on any items on the agenda at this time. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />1. The applicant, Chase Villafana, of Planet Fitness NY, proposes tenant improvements at the <br />former Border’s Bookstore building to set up a commercial gym. <br />The proposal includes: <br /> Addition of new bronze anodized windows to match existing <br /> Stucco column wrap around post to match existing finish <br /> Enclose lanai and add total of four (4) new storefront windows. <br />Landowner: John David Rapoza, et al. <br />TMK: (3) 7-5-004:058 <br />Location: 75-1000 Henry Street, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 <br />Staff planner, Rosalind Newlon, briefly provided the background for the project and described the <br />proposed improvements.
