<br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> MINUTES <br />Meeting Date: August 7, 2018 <br />Time: 5:15 p.m. <br />Place: West Hawai‘i Civic Center <br />nd <br />Planning Department Conference Room – Building E, 2 Floor <br />74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, 96740 <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Commissioners Present: Shaun Roth, Zon Sullenberger, Ann Kern, Bryant Ching, Jasmine <br />Crusat, Mark Van Pernis, Michaela Ikeuchi, and John Hetherington <br />Absent and Excused: Peter Dahlberg <br />Planning Department: Deanne Bugado (Planner) and Rosalind Newlon (Planner/Recorder) <br />Applicants/Representatives: Rennell Saro <br />Public: <br />A quorum was present, Chairman Shaun Roth called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. and the <br />Commissioners introduced themselves. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Minutes of the Meeting of July 24, 2018. <br />Chairman Shaun Roth asked if there were any corrections to the minutes. No corrections were <br />offered and the minutes were approved as circulated. <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br />There was no one from the public who wished to testify on any items on the agenda at this time. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />1. The applicant, Rennell Saro, is proposing a sign for Kona Crust Pizza at the Kona Coast <br />Shopping Center, located at the corner of Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway and Palani Road. The <br />proposal includes (1) 84”x 20” stainless steel/acrylic tenant wall sign with max letter height of 9” <br />and a max logo height of 20”. <br />Landowner: Liliuokalani Trust Estate <br />TMK: (3) 7-4-015:001 <br />Location: 74-5588 Palani Road, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 <br />Staff planner, Deanne Bugado, provided the background and power point presentation for the <br />project and described the location of the proposed sign/tenant location of Kona Crust Pizza within <br />the center. Ms. Bugado gave the details of the dimensions of the sign, letter size and said that the <br />sign will be above the sidewalk facing Palani Road. The sign area is 11.7 sq. ft., and the letter <br />and logo areas will be illuminated with a max letter height of 9” and a max logo height of 20. <br />The signs at the shopping center were permitted by an existing variance. <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
