Marni Herkes motioned to approve <br /> <br /> <br />and Bob Ward seconded. Unanimous approval given. <br /> <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Scenic Byway Program. <br /> <br /> <br />Kashmira Reid of Lyon Associates provided the Action Committee with an overview on the <br /> <br />National Scenic Byway program, the Hawaii State Scenic Byway program and the Hawaii Island <br /> <br /> <br />program. <br /> <br />Lyon Associates were originally contracted by the State to assist in the development of the <br />  <br />State’s Scenic Byway Program as well as to work on the pilot project which was selected to be <br />  <br />the “Kona Scenic Corridor.” Their contract has been modified to be a resource and support for <br />  <br />the state and potential applicants in going forth with Scenic Byway applications. <br />  <br />There are two Scenic Byways in process for Kona, the “Kona Scenic Corridor,” as well as the <br />  <br />other Corridor being worked on “Ali‘i Drive.” The “Kona Scenic Corridor,” as been recognized <br /> <br /> <br />by the State as a Scenic Byway with their focus on the Historic quality of the corridor and they <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />are now working on their Corridor Management Plan, a key component to the National Scenic <br /> <br /> <br />Byway application. The “Ali‘i Drive” Corridor has submitted an application for consideration <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />by the State to be a Scenic Byway with their primary focus on the Archaeological sites along the <br /> <br /> <br />corridor, a meeting on the status of this will occur within a few days. The two Corridors will not <br /> <br /> <br />be competing against each other as they are focusing on different “intrinsic qualities.” <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />tm; <br />šE <br /> <br />
