From: Motter Snell
To: LPCtestimony
Cc: WPCtestimony
Subject: OPPOSE:Item 1,Rules 8&9
Date: Tuesday,May 30,2023 6:26:23 AM
Aloha Leeward and Windward Planning Commission,
Please oppose agenda item 1,the Planning Department's Shoreline Setback of 40 feet for Rules 8 and 9.
I oppose it due to:
-Lack of descriptive detail in Rules 8 and 9
-Rule 8:the inadequate setback requirements while Oahu and Maui commit to 60-130 feet setback, further aligning
with Hawai'i State's Climate Resilient initiatives.
-Disregarding our Native Hawaiian people with Hawai'i County Planning Department proposing weak
archaeological rules that will not protect cultural and historic sites.
-These changes seem to benefit the usual suspects of private owners, corporations, and offshore investors without
carefully considering our local communities'well-being and the protection of our natural and cultural resources.
These written rules,as they stand,hold too many loopholes.Therefore,Item 1,Rules 8&9,should NOT pass.
Thank you for this opportunity,
Motter Snell
96725
Sent from my iPhone
