Some people come here to work here when they
can, either for an employer or on their own land.
They are unlikely to come here for 180 days or in some cases even 30 days. I have recently
hosted an electronics technician who used to work and live here but was required out of state
to care for an older family member. He doesn't get paid unless he is here and so definitely
isn't able to pay hotel rates. In the old days electronics technicians came from the plantations,
we don't have those anymore, they're retired or passed away. Where I work the last electronics
technician we had who grew up here was in the 90s.
Please at least allow people to stay 30 days or less, and exempt ALL PEOPLE who come here
to work for employment from ANY time restrictions. We need short term accommodation for
people like this to prevent us here from being more dependent on just tourists as well as to
keep places that need qualified workers here for a limited amount of time to shut down,
possibly forever, losing more jobs. Also, families who need to move out of their homes to
have the house fixed or even tented for termites need places to stay. There are no places here
that accommodate families including their pets, mostly AT ALL, outside of hotels, and I don't
know whether any of the hotels on this side even allow pets.
Aloha,
Maren Purves
