From: Adrian S
To: LPCtestimony
Subject: Written Testimony: Bill 122/Repeal of Bed and Breakfast
Date: Monday,April 15,2024 2:05:23 PM
My name is Adrian Soucek and I am writing to testify against Bill 122/B&B
Repeal for the following reasons:
1 . Loss of Income: Repealing the existing regulations on bed and
breakfast establishments would result in a loss of income for many
homeowners who rely on this form of income (especially our kupuna).
These small businesses not only contribute to the local economy but also
provide unique hospitality experiences for tourists, supporting cultural
exchange and enhancing the overall tourism experience with their Aloha.
2. Property Rights: Property rights are an essential aspect of individual
liberty and homeowners should have the right to operate a bed and
breakfast as long as they comply with basic safety and health
requirements.
3. Spreading Aloha: Bed and breakfasts often provide a more immersive
and culturally rich experience than traditional hotels. They contribute to the
preservation of local traditions, cuisine, and distinctive regional
characteristics, attracting tourists seeking an authentic and unique travel
experience. Repealing regulations could potentially erode the cultural
fabric and local charm of the region for visitors.
Please vote against this measure. It does not help our economy or change
our housing situation in any significant way.
With aloha,
Adrian Soucek
Hawi, HI
