From: Chris Hall
To: WPCtestimonv; LPCtestimonv
Subject: Bills 121 and 122
Date: Monday,April 15,2024 4:12:14 AM
Dear Chairperson Lin and Members of the Windward Planning Commission,
write to you as a Big Island homeowner who rents out my home to guests. We benefit
from the convenience of professional services such as personal chefs and massage
therapists in the home. Just this Christmas, myfamily spent the holiday together and
enjoyed the services of a personal chef. The proposed bill creates a vagueness around
what constitutes an 'event,' which could potentially disrupt our day-to-day lives.A family
dinner prepared by a chef or a therapeutic massage session in the comfort of one's
home should not be equated with larger, disruptive events like weddings. These services
are integral to our well-being and community, especially given the remote nature of our
island living.
These occasions are intimate for us or our guests. They are not events that should
require special permits. Clarity in the bill would ensure that these cherished moments
remain part of our lives without bureaucratic hurdles. I propose that the bill explicitly
exempts such personal services from being classified as events, allowing us to continue
enjoying these essential services that contribute to the unique fabric of Big Island home
life.
Sincerely,
Christopher Hall
Owner, Kailua Kona Investments, LLC
803-431-1632
