<br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br />MINUTES <br />Meeting Date: November 22, 2011 <br />Time: 5:22 p.m. <br />Place: West Hawai‘i Civic Center <br />nd <br />Planning Department Conference Room – Building E, 2 Floor <br /> 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, 96740 <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Members Present: Shane Kitchens, Fanny Au Hoy, Terry Dunlap, Stephen Herbert <br /> and John Hetherington <br />Absent and Excused: Nancy Burns, Eugene Power, Riley Saito and Sammie Stanbro <br />Applicants/Representatives: Danette Martin <br />Planning Department: Bennett Mark, Keola Childs and Noriko Sauer <br />Public: None <br />A quorum was present. Chair Kitchens called the meeting to order and the Commissioners <br />introduced themselves. <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br />None. <br />ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS <br />1. Approval of Minutes of the Meetings of October 25, 2011 and November 8, 2011. <br />It was moved by Commissioner Hetherington and seconded by Commissioner Au Hoy that the <br />minutes of the meeting of October 25, 2011, be approved as submitted. The motion was unanimously <br />carried by a voice vote of all Commissioners in attendance. The Commission deferred approval of <br />minutes of the meeting of November 8, 2011, at the request of the secretary. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />1. Design Review of a proposed dish-type microwave telecommunication antenna to be <br />installed on an existing 100 foot high monopole structure in addition to other existing <br />telecommunication antennae mounted thereon. Applicant: Danette Martin for Verizon <br />Wireless. Land Owners: Luhia Partners, LP and Queen Lili‘uokalani Trust. Property Tax <br />Map Key No.: 7-4-015:020. Location: 74-5599 Luhia Street, three parcels/building <br />complexes south of Kaiwi Street. <br />Mr. Childs oriented the Commissioners regarding the subject and surrounding properties on the <br />location map, and described the proposed project. He noted that although the Master Plan for <br />Kailua-Kona did not address the modern demand for telecommunication towers and antennas, based <br />on the property’s General Industrial zoning, the distance from the Village Core, the proposed neutral <br />1 <br /> <br />
