Phoa Regional Town Center Plan
ā
Steering Committee

Communication No. 2012-56

Aloha Director Fitzgerald:

As the Pāhoa Regional Town Center planning process began to unfold earlier this year, it immediately came to
the attention of the Steering Committee that the planning of Pāhoa Park is intimately connected with long term
planning for Pāhoa town and its economic sustainability. This realization, along with public input, has led to
proposals we look forward to sharing with you, which we believe will integrate successfully with proposals
already on the table.

The park project is unique to the Pāhoa planning effort currently underway in that public input has been
collected from more than the Pāhoa Survey and the Pāhoa Community Development Plan. There is also public
testimony presented at the two recent public hearings hosted by your Department, and the PRTC planning
groups continue to receive input from individuals involved with past Pāhoa Park planning efforts, as well as
new proposals for the Park.

The Pāhoa Survey, conducted from the end of March to the end of June, 2012, invited comments relating to
the Pāhoa town center area only, and was organized according to topical headings. The attached comments
were collected from the Pāhoa Survey under the general heading of “Parks and Recreation Services and
Facilities”; no specific questions were posed, and the resulting comments reflect this.

Please also note that the Pāhoa Survey was conducted before the public announcement that County funding
and new park facilities would become available for Pāhoa Park and before the subsequent public meetings.

A few weeks ago the PRTC planning groups met with Roy Takemoto to become better informed about the
Environmental Assessment and further familiarize ourselves with the County’s planning process. At that time
Roy communicated that it would be in everyone’s best interest to arrange a meeting between us at your
earliest convenience. We look forward to meeting with you and your staff on December 11, 9 a.m., at your
office.

Thank you for your consideration of this timely matter,

Sincerely,

The Steering Committee

Gilbert Aguinaldo
Madie Greene
Mark Hinshaw
Jon Olson
Rene Siracusa
Oshi Simsarian
Dan Taylor
