NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATIONAL MEETING <br />AND <br />NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT SECTION 106 CONSULTATION <br />Kea`au -Pahoa Road Intersection Improvements at Old Government Road <br />Notice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State of Hawaii Department of <br />Transportation, Highways Division (HDOT), proposes to perform improvements to Kea`au -Pahoa Road intersection at Old <br />Government Road. The intent of the project is to improve traffic operations and safety by converting the existing T- <br />Intersection into a single -lane modern roundabout. The Section 106 area of potential effect (APE) is proposed to be the <br />entire right -of -way (ROW) of Kea`au -Pahoa in the project area. <br />The work includes converting the existing T- intersection into a single -lane roundabout (center island, truck apron and <br />circular path); pavement reconstruction; slope reinforcement; landscaping improvements; electrical conduits and street <br />lights; drainage improvements; underdrain installation; ADA compliant curb ramps and sidewalks; chain link fences and <br />guardrails; signage and striping; and adjustment and relocation of various utilities, as necessary. The project also <br />involves construction for a temporary detour and work zone traffic control during the construction. The total <br />construction time for the work is estimated to be twelve (12) months. <br />HDOT will conduct a Public Informational Meeting to introduce the project and gather community input. The meeting <br />will occur Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pahoa Neighborhood Facility located at 15- <br />3022 Kauhale Street, Pahoa HI 96778.
