North Kohala Community Access Group Meeting Notes October 2, 2013 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm) Participants : Ralph Galan, Beth Robinson, Jack Hoyt, Marlene Ching, Toni Withington, Carol Fuertes, Keith Wallis, Bruce Soll, Linda Soll, Charlie Anderson, Joe Carvalho, Ted Matsuda. Akoakoa Point (Bird Cave) NSTR (Nothing Significant to Report) Hapu'u Kapanaia Pacific Plains, LLC is proceeding with the preservation plan for Kapalama Heiau. The preservation plan is in draft form and available for public comment. We'll draft a letter to Alan Haun (the archeologist), in support of the preservation plan. Carol Fuertes of Kahua Pa'a Mua, Inc. could not meet the deadline for the grant application to help execute the preservation plan. There were technicalities with new information on the preservation plan. · Carol will keep collecting all information needed to apply for a future grant. · Halelua The landowners are still deciding on easements Kauhola Lighthouse There will be a meeting this fall on the management plan. Pahoa Beach NSTR Upolu Airport - East end of the runway We will do a walk thru with Charlie or Dave on Wednesday, October 9th at 4:30. Upolu Airport Area Restoration NSTR Coast Guard Road Jack will help with getting the landowners and government agencies together after the beginning of January 2014. Puakea Bay Ranch National park service - Ala Kahakai will get the landowners and government agencies to meet and address the access trail. Ranch at Puakea NSTR Latitude 20 (Land south of Pao'o) We will address this area as Lamaloloa, the official name of the ahupuaa. Lamaloloa has been nominated to the PONC We will try again to meet with the landowners. Kaiholena and Paoo Kohala Lihikai will be applying to manage the newly acquired public land. Kohala Kai . The access plan is at the county council for approval. We need to get an update from the planning department. Grant of easement documents The draft database is done and will need to update the GIS map. Old government roads and rail roads The water, parks, & road subcommittee of the North Kohala Community Development Plan Action Committee will meet with landowners of Pratt Road to discuss access. New Items North Kohala Community Development Plan Action Committee has 3 openings and is asking the public to apply and get involved. Next Meeting Wednesday November 6, 2013, 4:30pm in the Old courthouse.
