<br /> <br />WINDWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />HEARING TRANSCRIPT <br /> APRIL 3, 2014 <br /> <br /> Kristin Jones Crews (USE-14-000047) <br />A regularly advertised hearing on the application of <br />was called to order at 10:35 a.m. in the County of Hawai‘i, Aupuni Center Conference Room, <br /> <br />101 Pauahi Street, Hilo, Hawai‘i with Chairman Ronald Gonzales presiding. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Ronald Gonzales, Charles Heaukulani, Gregory Henkel, <br />Wallace A. Ishibashi, Jr., Myles Miyasato, Stephen Ono, and Raylene Moses. <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Duane Kanuha (Planning Director), Margaret Masunaga (Deputy <br />Corporation Counsel for the Windward Planning Commission), William Brilhante (Deputy <br />Corporation Counsel for the Planning Director), Daryn Arai (Planning Program Manager), Jeff <br />Darrow (Staff Planner), Maija Cottle (Staff Planner), and Sarah Hata-Finley (Secretary). <br /> <br />And approximately 14 people from the public in attendance. <br /> <br />APPLICANT: KRISTIN JONES CREWS (USE 14-047) <br />Application for a Use Permit to allow the establishment of a three-bedroom bed and breakfast <br />operation within an existing three-bedroom dwelling and proposed one-bedroom ‘ohana dwelling <br />situated on approximately 20,000 square feet of land within the Single-Family Residential (RS- <br />20) zoning district. The property is located within the Mauna Loa Estates Subdivision on the <br />th <br />south (makai) side of 6 Street between Jade Avenue and Ruby Avenue, Volcano, Puna, <br />Hawai‘i, TMK: 1-1-009:067. <br /> <br />GONZALES: All right. Next is number four, Applicant Kristin Jones Crews, Use Permit <br />14-047. Go ahead. <br /> <br />COTTLE: Thank you, Mr. Chair. The next application is a request for a Use Permit. The <br />subject property is located in the Puna district, in the Mauna Loa Estates Subdivision, which is <br />located near Volcano Village. If I can direct your attention to the screen, you can see the subject <br />property is identified by a red dot in the middle of the screen. And this entire subdivision here, <br />all of these lots, is Mauna Loa Estates. Volcano Village is located in this general area where you <br />see pink on the slide. And then you have the Volcano Highway running through the middle. <br />The property--let me see if I have a close up, there we go. The property is located off of Jade <br />th <br />Avenue which runs in a mauka-makai orientation, and then off of Jade it would be on 6 <br />th <br />Avenue, just makai of 6 Avenue. The entire Mauna Loa Estates Subdivision is zoned Single <br />Family Residential, which is shown in the light yellow.
