North Kohala Community Access Group Meeting Notes January 7, 2015 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm) Participants: Greg Mooers, Keoni Mackillop, Margot McFedries, Marlene Ching, Toni Withington, Carter Collins, Beth Robinson, Mary Hon, Ted Hon, Joe Carvalho, Ted Matsuda. Akoakoa Point (Bird Cave)  NSTR – Nothing Significant to Report Hapu'u – Kapanaia  Representatives from Pacific Plains, LLC will be here on January 21st, & 22nd. They want to meet with people who can help move along the public purchase of lots 8 & 9 PONC, HILT, & Kamehameha Schools are being approached for possible purchase. o  Toni will set up the meeting for Wednesday, January 21st, for 5:00 pm. The PONC list has just come out and 3 parcels in North Kohala are the top 3. 1) Halelua 2) Hapu'u - Kapanai'a corridor. 3) Niulii The Hon family would like to dedicate their ocean front conservation area for public purchase. Beth will invite HILT to do a site visit and look at options of preservation. Halelua  We need to get an update from the planning department on the GOE for the access trail. Kauhola Lighthouse  The access road is completed. The road & property has been vandalized. Halaula Mill Road  We need an update from the planning department on the GOE and a response to our comments made a few months back. Ainakea – Makai  Toni will check if the pedestrian gate has been modified as discussed when they did the walk thru. Pahoa Beach  NSTR. Upolu Airport - East end of the runway  NSTR. Upolu Airport - Restoration  Kohala Lihikai has 600 native plants ready to go into the ground. They have scheduled the planting on January 12th & 13th. They need volunteers on January 13th to put plants into the holes on the west side of the o shoreline in front of the runway.  They will meet at 8:45am at Upolu Airport terminal.  The Kohala Watershed Project will be preparing the planting sites on Monday. Help is needed to put the plants in the ground on Tuesday. Page | 1
