<br />Power, Viewplanes, & Erosion Control Subcommittee report <br />to NK CDP AC meeting on July 13, 2015 <br />POWER <br />On June 13, subcommittee members Carter Collins & Toni Withington had an <br />informal meeting with HELCO president Jay Ignacio about alternative energy <br />sources for Kohala. <br />EROSION CONTROL <br />Upolu sediment mitigation project - <br />On June 16, Gail Byrne Baber and several Kohala High School students working <br />on the Upolu sediment mitigation project toured over 2 dozen sediment basins at <br />Kohala Estates with subcommittee member Susan Fischer. On June 22, Gail & her <br />students spent the day in the field learning about sediment check dams with the <br />Kohala Watershed crew and the next day the students worked with the crew to <br />install 6 check dams at Upolu. <br />VIEWPLANES <br />While at the Kohala Estates sediment basins, the students observed methods of <br />combining viewplane preservation with erosion control, where building sites are <br />planned to view across basins reserved for vegetation. <br />
