<br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />JULY 16, 2015 <br /> <br />The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:32 a.m. in the West Hawai‘i Civic <br />Center, Community Center, Building G, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway, Kailua-Kona, <br />Hawai‘i, with Chairman Brandi Beaudet presiding. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Brandi Beaudet, Scott Church, Collin Kaholo, Barbara Nobriga, <br />Keith Unger, Sonny Shimaoka (until 10:20 a.m.) and Thomas Whittemore (until 10:20 a.m.) <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Danny Patel (Counsel for the Commission), Duane Kanuha (Planning <br />Director), Daryn Arai (Planning Program Manager), Jeff Darrow (Planner), Maija Jackson <br />(Planner) and Noriko Sauer (Commission Secretary) <br /> <br />And six people from the public in attendance. <br /> <br />A quorum was present. Chair Beaudet called the meeting to order, and introduced the <br />Commissioners and staff to members of the public. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – No statements were presented under this section of the <br />agenda. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br /> <br />1.APPLICANT: CLEMENS CLASSEN (SPP 15-180) <br />Application for a Special Permit to establish a 3-bedroom bed and breakfast operation within <br />an existing 5-bedroom dwelling on approximately 20.97 acres of land situated within the State <br />Land Use Agricultural District. The property is located east (mauka) of Hawai‘i Belt Road at <br />the 100 mile marker approximately 1.1 miles south of the intersection of Ho‘okena Beach <br />Road and Hawai‘i Belt Road in Waiea ahupua‘a, South Kona, Hawai‘i, TMK: 8-6-001:013. <br /> <br />The Commission took up this item at 9:33 a.m. with approximately eleven people from the public <br />in attendance. <br /> <br />(SEE EXHIBIT A) <br /> <br /> <br />2.INITIATOR: PLANNING DIRECTOR (SMA 10-039) <br />Revocation of Special Management Area Use (SMA) Permit No. 10-000039 originally issued <br />to Kawaihae Restaurant, LLC by the Planning Commission on May 3, 2010, to allow the <br />establishment of a restaurant and commercial/recreational uses, facilities and activities <br />consistent with the (Industrial- Commercial Mixed) MCX zoning on 1.32 acres in the Special <br />Management Area. The property is located along the ocean (makai) side of Akoni Pule <br />Highway just north of Kawaihae Harbor, South Kohala, Hawai‘i, TMK: 6-1-003:015. <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
