2:3 fcr ')2 '^ 0 117
June H. Kaye
Hakalau resident
I SUPPORT the steering committee's actions to designate this coastal area OPEN.
The Committee has weighed the expressed desire of hundreds of community members to protect the
point from future development, and the land owner, his son and his supporters.
Factor 1 of the Draft CDP states:
Minimize new coastal development. This first factor used in evaluating LUPAG
designations is based on Community Objective#1,which states:
"Protect, restore, and enhance watershed ecosystems, sweeping views, and open spaces
from mauka forests to makai shorelines, while assuring responsible public access for
recreational,spiritual,cultural,and sustenance practices."
7 years to develop the new Hamakua Community Development Plan is long enough. The steering
committee has listened to all interested parties on future development, in order to draft a plan that
reflects the hopes of the community for the future.
Designating this beautiful, fragile, cliftside point as OPEN is one step toward reflecting the desire of the
community to MINIMIZE NEW COASTAL DEVELOPMENT.
Legal arguments should be made by attorneys representing the County and not be a factor in
determining the future LUPAG designation.
10 069
