WINDWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />MINUTES <br />APRIL 6, 2017 <br />The Windward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. in the County of <br />Hawaii, Aupuni Center Conference Room, 101 Pauahi Street, Hilo, Hawaii, with Chairman <br />Gregory Henkel presiding. <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Joseph Clarkson, Donn Dela Cruz, Gregory Henkel, Donald <br />Ikeda, and Myles Miyasato. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Michael Yee (Planning Director), Malia Ho (Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />for the Windward Planning Commission), Jeff Darrow (Planning Program Manager), Maija <br />Jackson (Planner), Christian Kay (Planner), Shancy Watanabe (Planner), and Sarah Hata-Finley <br />(Commission Secretary). <br />A quorum was present. Chairman Henkel introduced Windward Planning Commissioners and <br />staff to members of the public. <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC — No statements were presented under this section of the <br />agenda. <br />1. APPLICANT: JAN VALDEZ (USE 17-066) <br />Application for a Use Permit to allow the establishment of a two-bedroom bed and breakfast <br />operation within an existing three-bedroom dwelling situated on approximately 40,336 <br />square feet of land within the Single -Family Residential (RS -20) zoning district. The <br />property is located within the Honoli`i Pali Tract on the south side of Honoli`i Place, about <br />600 feet south of the Honoli`i Place/ Pauka`a Drive intersection, Pauka`a, South Hilo, <br />Hawaii, TMK: 2-7-015:012. <br />The Commission took this item up at 9:02 a.m. with 8 people from the public in attendance. <br />(SEE EXHIBIT A) <br />This item ended at 9:40 a.m. <br />2. INITIATOR: PLANNING DIRECTOR <br />An ordinance amending Chapter 25 (Zoning), Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as <br />amended), Article 4, Division 2, Section 25-4-13; Article 5, Division 5, Section 25-5-52; <br />Article 5, Division 6, Section 25-5-62; and Article 5, Division 7, Section 25-5-72 relating to <br />home occupations.
