North Kohala Community Access Group April 5, 2017 (Old State Courthouse 4:30pm) Participants: Toni Withington, Joe Carvalho, Aric Arakaki, Teri Takata, Beth Robinson, Jack Hoyt, Margot McFedries, Ted Matsuda. ❖ Pololu Lookout ➢ On April 12th State Representative Cindy Evans, David Smith, Administrator of DOFAW of DLNR, and Clem Chang of Na Ala Hele state trails, & a Pololu core group will visit the Pololu trail at 11:30. ■ There will be a public meeting at 2:30 in Hisaoka gym conference room. o Notice was given to about 50 participants on the Pololu e-mail network group. o They also invited these other people who are interested in the Pololu area, Bill Shontell of Surety, Eddie Lewis, Mike Gomes, & Rick Gordon. ❖ Akoakoa Point ■ NSTR (nothing substantial to report). ❖ Hapu'u — Kapanaia ➢ We need an update from the county on PONC purchase of this area. ■ The Mayor didn't sign authorization to start negotiations. ➢ Squatters are on lands owned by Misty Kai. ■ Police gave them a warning to no avail. ■ The squatter had assured the landowner that he would vacate the land by March 21. •'• Halelua • ➢ Same as above, waiting for mayor's signature to move ahead with negotiations. ■ This needs to be done by June 1st in order for PONC to get funding through the State Legacy Land fund. •'• Kauhola Point • ➢ NSTR (nothing substantial to report). •'• Ainakea ■ The current access trail from Blancato to Sutherland is a bit confusing.. •'• Pahoa Beach • ➢ NSTR-need update from the county. ❖ Upolu Airport East ➢ NSTR. ❖ Upolu Airport Restoration ➢ NPS has about 10 students on the KUPU summer program ready to start in the 1" 2 weeks in July. ■ NPS will coordinate with Kohala Lihikai. ❖ Puakea Bay Ranch ➢ We will coordinate a meeting with the owners, Puakea Bay owners association, & government agencies to mitigate the trail.
