<br />JOINT LEEWARD AND WINDWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />APRIL 10, 2017 <br /> <br />The Leeward and Windward Planning Commissions met in joint session at 10:40 a.m. in the <br />West Hawai‘i Civic Center, Community Center, Building G, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole <br />Highway, Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, with Chairman Keith F. Unger presiding. <br /> <br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Keith F. Unger, Nancy Carr Smith <br />(until 3:32 p.m.), Scott Church (until 12:37 p.m.), Collin Kaholo, Perry Kealoha, <br />Barbara Nobriga and Sonny Shimaoka <br /> <br />WINDWARD PLANNING COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Greg Henkel, Joseph Clarkson and <br />Donald Ikeda <br /> <br />ABSENT AND EXCUSED: Donn Dela Cruz and Myles Miyasato <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Malia Ho (Counsel for the Commission), Michael Yee (Planning Director), <br />Daryn Arai (Deputy Planning Director), Jeff Darrow (Planning Program Manager), <br />Maija Jackson (Planner), Shancy Watanabe (Planner), Sarah Hata-Finley (Windward Planning <br />Commission Secretary) and Noriko Sauer (Leeward Planning Commission Secretary) <br /> <br />And approximately 20 people from the public in attendance. <br /> <br />A quorum was present. Ms. Jackson stated that the first order of business for the joint meeting <br />was to select a chairperson, and noted that the Commissions’ two choices were Chairman Henkel <br />from the Windward Planning Commission and Chairman Unger from the Leeward Planning <br />Commission. Chairman Henkel said that he would like to yield the chairmanship to Chairman <br />Unger. The nomination was seconded by Commissioner Carr Smith and unanimously supported <br />by a voice vote. <br /> <br />Chairman Unger called the meeting to order, and introduced the Commissioners and staff to <br />members of the public.
