Subject: Community Development Plan Action Committee Meetings in 2020
Happy New Year!
Thank you for your support and participation in the Fall 2019 General Plan events! You will be
pleased to know that we received over 3,500 comments, both directly and during Speak Outs,
small group meetings, and topic -focused workshops. I congratulate the Department's Long
Range Planning team in its successful community engagement efforts.
I am writing to follow-up on my July 5, 2019 memo to you in which I explained that the
demands of the General Plan Comprehensive Review required that we limit Action Committee
meetings during the second half of 2019 to pressing business items. I am pleased to let you
know that we will reconvene Action Committees in 2020.
Importantly, the focus of CDP implementation in 2020 will be on advancing community-based
implementation of CDP goals, objectives, policies, and actions through partnerships. We also
look forward to getting Action Committee input on the Disaster Recovery Plan, the future of the
County's community planning program, and the recommended draft of the General Plan.
Staff are working on the details of a strategy that makes the most effective, efficient use of
Action Committee meetings in support of CDP implementation. With past successes and
challenges in mind, we are hoping to develop a thoughtful approach to community -County
collaboration that is more productive and meaningful than some of our previous practice. CDP
planners will be in touch during the first quarter of 2020 with more information.
