Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area Closed March 12, 2022
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation announces that the
Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area (formerly Mauna Kea Recreation Area) will be
closed on March 12, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. due to a scheduled power
outage.
HELCO will be doing emergency pole replacement work in the vicinity of Gilbert
Kahele Recreation Area and requires the deenergizing of the substation feeding the
park.
Please plan travel through this area with the knowledge that the public restrooms
and amenities at this park will not be available during this timeframe. Thank you
for your understanding as we work to improve the conditions at this park.
