• Apa'a Street will be re -opened from December 17, 2014.
• Apa'a Street will be open to the public between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm daily.
• Apa'a Street is a paved, two-lane roadway.
• Motorists and Pedestrians are urged to exercise caution and be considerate.
• To balance access and the safety of pedestrians and motorists a parking and traffic plan has been created.
• Volunteer attendants will be on site to assist drivers and pedestrians sharing the travel -way.
• Gravel shoulder on Pahoa Town Side, to be kept clear for pedestrians. No Parking Anytime. (See Graphic).
• Gravel shoulder on Ainaloa Side designated for REVERSE DIAGONAL PARKING for the public. (See Graphic).
• Buses may drop off passengers at the transfer station and idle at the designated idle area.
• Vehicles with Disabled Placards may drop off passengers at the transfer station and park in a
designated area. (See Graphic).
• A 240' buffer zone has been established near the checkpoint on the lower portion of Apa'a Street for the
privacy of the closest residence; safety of checkpoint personnel and operations; and protection of
government equipment.
• The reverse diagonal has several benefits: 1) maximizes vehicles that may park on the shoulder; 2) assists
with pedestrian safety along the roadway; 3) assists drivers EXITING Apa'a Street, since they will be able
to make a left turn and quickly exit the area.
