I wanted to come back to a couple of these questions, <br />you know, about the five -acre school site, like that, I think that's a very germane issue. And I want <br />to share with the Commission some of the background,, you "know, on that. When the property was <br />originally rezoned back in 2005, there was a lot of peg.otiations ,backtand forth - - - the Council - - - <br />time the Council has suggested, or encouraged, the applicant, "Would`you consider setting aside five <br />acres of land for a public school?" - - - worked out In the - - - charter'sch ol. Meantime, that kind <br />of like fizzled out and the charter school kind of moved on. But nevertheless,, the five -acre area was <br />proposed to be set aside on - - - portion of the Suffolk, property and - - - area. Now, between the first <br />and the second Planning Commissionmeeting, I did get, the chance to talk to the Planning Director <br />and said like the applicant is willing to set aside this five -acre area and donate it`to the County for a <br />park and, or whatever use that the County deems the appropriate, and in so doing it would help kind <br />of like make a so-called more cohesive master"plan;,because -now would be embracing not only <br />the Suffolk and Puaa property but also maybe a four=`or,five-acre _portion property on the makai side, <br />and it would be a little bit:more,complete development. So-, the Director didn't accept that, you <br />know, for different reasons, but I'd"like to kind of point outto Commissioner Yates and Members of <br />this - - - that offer is still there. And so if the Commission wants to amend Condition U, or <br />Condition V, you know;­rel`ated to: the .school site, it- will basically read like, "Prior to issuance of a <br />building permit= for -.any residential" or commercial structures on the site, the applicant has to <br />subdivide"sand dedicate:or cause"the dedication'of five ""acres of land within the Suffolk property or <br />the property immediately makai." _ � "So., that condition can be made, you know, as part of, you know, <br />the Commissioners' recommendation; "or if you want the applicant to so represent, that can be a <br />presentation made on the part of the applicants. <br />CARR SMITH: <br />NEWBERG: Madam Chair,, you need to unmute. <br />CARR SMITH: Sorry about that.
