No. 1080 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:04 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Safety, to which was referred Communication No. 1080, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 1080, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 18, 2020, <br /> appoints Maria Shon Magsalin of Council District 1 to the Fire Commission. <br /> Ms. Magsalin has been a resident of Hawai`i for 35 years and is a retired Registered Nurse and <br /> supervisor who worked at the Hilo Medical Center for the past 20 years. If Ms. Magsalin is <br /> confirmed, she would serve a term ending December 31, 2020, and will qualify to reapply for a <br /> full five-year term. <br /> Ms. Barbara Kossow, Deputy Managing Director to Mayor Kim, introduced Nominee Magsalin. <br /> Ms. Magsalin appeared in Hilo Chambers and offered a summary of her expertise and responded <br /> to questions from Council Members. <br /> Several Council Members commented in favor of Ms. Magsalin because of her background, and <br /> because of respected individuals that recommended Ms. Magsalin for this position. The vote <br /> was then taken with all present Council Members voting "aye." <br /> Chair Rebecca Villegas stated that Ms. Magsalin is not required to appear at the next Council <br /> meeting on October 21, 2020. <br /> Pursuant to Section 7-4.5 of the Hawai`i County Charter, the Fire Commission shall consist of <br /> nine members, one member shall be a resident of each council district, appointed by the Mayor <br /> and confirmed by the Council. <br /> PSC Report No. 16 <br />
