AGING <br /> AGING <br /> The design of"One-stop shops" eliminates many of the hurdles consumers and families' <br /> experience,reducing consumer confusion building trust and respect in the decision <br /> making process. <br /> Other Activities of the Hawaii County's Area Agency <br /> Following is a list of activities that the Hawai`i County Office of Aging undertakes to <br /> fulfill its mission: <br /> Assessment and Data Maintenance <br /> 1. Continuously assessing the needs of older individuals through outreach efforts <br /> involving the gathering of demographic,health and social data; <br /> 2. Assessing and identifying the service gaps and needs of older individuals in their <br /> respective communities through public hearings, data analysis, and <br /> consumer/provider feedback; <br /> Program Development <br /> 1. Coordinate planning with other agencies and organizations to promote new or <br /> expanded benefits and opportunities for older persons; <br /> 2. Develop and administer an Area Plan on Aging for a comprehensive and coordinated <br /> service delivery system in Hawai`i County; <br /> Contract Development and Monitoring <br /> 1. Provide technical assistance, monitor, and periodically evaluate the performance of <br /> all service providers under the Area Plan; <br /> 2. Enter into sub-grants or contracts for the provision of services outlined in the Area <br /> Plan; and <br /> Advocacy <br /> 1. Represent the interests of older persons to public officials and public and private <br /> agencies; <br /> 2. Develop and maintain a public awareness program for older persons; <br /> 3. Monitor, evaluate, and comment on policies, programs, hearings, and community <br /> actions that may affect older persons. <br /> Advisory Councils <br /> The Mayor of Hawai`i County and HCOA have established two advisory committees. <br /> These Committees are as follows: <br /> The Committee on Aging serves as an advisory committee to advise the Mayor and <br /> HCOA on the development and administration of the area plan, conduct public hearings, <br /> represent the interests of older persons, and receive and comment on all community <br /> 3 <br />
