REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: April 6, 2021 Re: Comm.No. 179/Res.No. 76-21 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 1:00 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 76-21, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 76-21, transmitted by Director of Finance Deanna Sako via Communication No. 179 <br /> dated March 17, 2021, authorizes the acceptance of a donation of a water polo lane line course to the <br /> County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation. <br /> This donation, provided by the USA Women's Water Polo Team, is valued at approximately $5,500 <br /> and would be used at the Kona Community Aquatic Center in Kailua-Kona. <br /> Pursuant to Hawai`i County Charter Section 13-12 the Council may accept gifts of donations of <br /> money, securities or other personal property. In addition, Hawaii County Code Section 2-162(a) <br /> states that any gifts or donations of money, securities, or personal property which fall within the <br /> capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance may be accepted by a resolution approved by <br /> the Council. <br /> Council Member Ashley Kierkiewicz called forward Deputy Parks and Recreation Director Michelle <br /> Hiraishi and Aquatics Division Specialist Alejandra Flores Morikami, who explained that the United <br /> States Water Polo Team reached out to the department wishing to travel to the islands for a team <br /> training excursion. The County did not have the equipment to support the event, so the team shipped <br /> it to the department with the intent on leaving it here when the event is completed. <br /> Council Member Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder asked if there is any water polo equipment on the island. <br /> Ms. Morikami replied that the department does not have a Water Polo program and this is the first of <br /> this type of equipment to add to their inventory. She expressed that she would love to see youth <br /> Water Polo Program in the future. <br /> FC Report No. 28 <br />
