Other means of protection, such as self-closing doors with self- <br /> latching devices, which are approved, shall be accepted so long as <br /> the degree of protection afforded is not less than the protection <br /> afforded by Section R326.3.1.8, Item 1 or 2. <br /> R326.3.1.9 Pool structure as barrier. Where an aboveground pool <br /> structure is used as a barrier or where the barrier is mounted on top of the <br /> pool structure, and the means.of access is a ladder or steps, then the ladder <br /> or steps either shall be capable of being secured, locked or removed to prevent <br /> access, or the ladder or steps shall be surrounded by a barrier which meets <br /> the requirements of Sections R326.3.L i through R326.3.1.8. When the ladder <br /> or steps are secured, locked or removed, anv opening created shall not allow <br /> the passage of a 4-inch diameter (102 mm) sphere. <br /> R326.3.2 Indoor swimming pools. Walls surrounding indoor swimming <br /> pools shall not be required to comply with Section R326.3.1.8. <br /> R326.3.3 Prohibited locations. Barriers shall be located so as to prohibit <br /> permanent structures, equipment or similar objects from being used to climb <br /> the barriers. <br /> R326.4 Entrapment avoidance. Suction outlets shall be designed and <br /> installed in accordance with ANSIJAPSP-7." <br /> (37) Section R401, "General," of the International Residential Code, is amended by <br /> adding subsection R401.5, "Post or pier foundations," to read as follows: <br /> "R401.5 Post or pier foundations. Raised floor systems supported by post or <br /> pier foundations shall be designed in accordance with the Building Code, <br /> Chapter 5A, Hawai`i County Code." <br /> (38J Subsection R402.2.1, "Materials for concrete," of the International Residential <br /> Code is amended to read as follows: <br /> "R402.2.1 Materials for concrete. Materials for concrete shall comply with <br /> the requirements of Section R608.5.1. The maximum water to cement ratio for <br /> concrete slabs-on-grade shall not exceed 0.50." <br /> (39) Section R403, "Footings," of the International Residential Code is amended by <br /> adding subsection R403.1.6.2, "Concrete strap type anchors," to read as follows: <br /> "R403.1.6.2 Concrete strap-type anchors. Concrete strap-type anchors <br /> made out of cold-formed steel shall not be used along the perimeter edges of a <br /> slab-on-grade where the steel does not have at least 1-1/2 inches side cover or <br /> other adequate protection." <br /> 33 <br />
