No. 180-21 j <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 12:23 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 180-21, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 180-21,transmitted by Director of Finance Deanna S. Sako via Communication No. 349, <br /> dated July 30, 2021, authorizes the acceptance of a donation of two historical signs to the County of <br /> Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation. <br /> The donation from Malama Wai`aha, valued at approximately $10,000 would be located at Wai`aha <br /> Beach Park to commemorate the birthplace of the bodyboard. <br /> Committee Member Rebecca Villegas provided background on the significance of Wai`aha,the creation <br /> of the first bodyboard by Tom Morey, and the signage created in collaboration with the Kailua Village <br /> Business Improvement District. Ms. Villegas expressed that the signage will serve to educate visitors <br /> and residents on the history of the area. <br /> Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder expressed appreciation for the donation and the <br /> collaboration between Hawaii County and the community. <br /> Pursuant to Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council may accept gifts of donations of <br /> money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate.
