Use of sunroom and patio covers, as defined in Section R202, shall be <br /> permitted for natural ventilation if in excess of[48] 65 percent of the exterior <br /> sunroom walls are open, or are enclosed only by insect screening." <br /> (24) Subsection R303.3, "Bathrooms," of the International Residential Code is <br /> amended to read as follows: <br /> "R303.3 Bathrooms. Bathrooms, water closet compartments, laundry rooms, <br /> and other similar rooms shall be provided with [aggregate glazing arca in <br /> windows of not less than 3 square feet(0.3 m2), one half of which must be <br /> openable] natural ventilation by means of openable exterior openings with an <br /> area not less than one twentieth of the floor area of such rooms with a minimum <br /> of 1 1/2 square feet." <br /> Exception: The glazed areas shall not be required where artificial light and a <br /> local exhaust system are provided. The minimum local exhaust rates shall be <br /> determined in accordance with Section M1505. Exhaust air from the space shall <br /> be exhausted directly to the outdoors." <br /> (25) Subsection R309.3, "Flood hazard areas," of the International Residential Code is <br /> amended to read as follows: <br /> "R309.3 Flood hazard areas. [For buildings located in flood hazard areae ac <br /> - - - - - - - - - , -! y -- - - - -- . . <br /> 1. Elevated to or above the design flood elevation as determined in accordance <br /> with Section R322. <br /> _. . . - . - 0.. - . . . . . - y 0. - - . . <br /> . .. . • . . • - - . - -• . - - . <br /> constructed in accordance with this code.] Buildings located within areas of <br /> special flood hazards pursuant to Chapter 27, Hawai`i County Code, shall be <br /> designed and constructed in accordance with Chapter 27, Hawai`i County <br /> Code." <br /> (26) Subsection R310.2.1, "Minimum opening area," of the International Residential <br /> Code is amended to read as follows: <br /> "R310.2.1 Minimum opening area. Emergency and escape rescue openings <br /> shall have a net clear opening of not less 5.7 square feet (0.530 m2). The net clear <br /> opening dimensions required by this section shall be obtained by the normal <br /> operation of the emergency escape and rescue opening from the inside. The net <br /> clear height of the opening shall be not less than 24 inches (610 mm) and the net <br /> clear width shall be not less than 20 inches (508 mm). <br /> [Exception] Exceptions: <br /> L Grade floor openings or below-grade openings shall have a net clear opening <br /> area of not less than 5 square feet (0.465 m2). <br /> 2. Glass jalousie bladed windows may be used for emergency escape or rescue." <br /> 23 <br />
