(27) Subsection R313.2, "One-and two-family dwellings automatic fire sprinkler <br /> systems,"is amended to read as follows: <br /> "An automatic residential fire sprinkler system shall be installed in one-and two- <br /> family dwellings. <br /> [Exception] Exceptions: <br /> 1. An automatic residential fire sprinkler system shall not be required for <br /> additions or alterations to existing buildings that are not already provided <br /> with an automatic residential sprinkler system. <br /> 2. In accordance with section 46-19.8, Hawai`i Revised Statutes, "Fire <br /> sprinklers; residences," until June 30, 2027 the installation or retrofittingof <br /> p <br /> automatic fire sprinklers or an automatic fire sprinkler system shall not be <br /> required in: <br /> 2.1 Any new or existing detached one- or two-family dwelling unit in a <br /> structure used only for residential purposes; and <br /> 2.2 Nonresidential agricultural and aquacultural buildings and structures <br /> located outside an urban area. <br /> Provided that Exception 2 shall not apply to new homes that require a variance <br /> from access road or firefighting water supply requirements." <br /> (28) Subsection R317.1, "Location required," of the International Residential Code is <br /> amended by amending the first paragraph of this subsection to read as follows: <br /> (Paragraphs numbered 1 through 7 that follow this paragraph, shall remain <br /> unchanged.) - - <br /> "R317.1 Location required. Protection of wood and wood-based products from <br /> decay shall be provided in the following locations by the use of naturally durable <br /> wood as approved by the building official, or wood that is preservative-treated in <br /> accordance with AWPA U1 for the species, product, preservative and end use. <br /> Preservatives shall be listed in Section 4 of AWPA Ui." <br /> (29) Subsection R318.1, "Subterranean termite control methods," of the International <br /> Residential Code is amended to read as follows: <br /> "R318.1 Subterranean termite control methods. [In areas subject to damage <br /> from termites as indicated by Table R301.2(1), protection shall be by one, or a <br /> combination, of the following methods:] Methods of protection shall be one of <br /> items 1, 2 or 3 and one of items 4, 5, or 6. <br /> 1. Chemical termiticide [tr utment in accordance with], as provided in <br /> Section R318.2. <br /> 2. Termite-baiting system installed and maintained [in accordance with] <br /> according to the label. <br /> 3. Physical barriers, as provided in Section R318.3 and used in locations as <br /> specified in Section R317.1. <br /> 4. Pressure-preservative-treated wood in accordance with [ - . <br /> Section R317.1. <br /> [4. Naturally durable termite resistant wood. <br /> 24 <br />
