REQUEST: <br /> A Resolution authorizing County(via R & D)to enter into,agreement with the University of Hawaii, to provide <br /> funding for its"Expanding Devil Weed Eradication Program to the Puna District" proposal. <br /> •B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION(USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §46-7, the County may enter into agreements with "any public body" <br /> with the consent of Council. R & D is requesting that Council approve a resolution authorizing.R& D to enter <br /> into an agreement with the University of Hawaii, a public body,for the purposes of funding its program, <br /> "Expanding Devil Weed Eradication Program to the Puna District", pursuant to HCC 2-139(3)(c). <br /> Devil weed has been confirmed in 6 locations in Puna, Hawaiian Beaches/Hawaiian Shores, Hawaiian <br /> Paradise Park, Leilani, and Orchidland subdivisions. These 6 locations total around 340 acres. Each area <br /> will be surveyed 2-4 times and target plant locations will be marked with GPS coordinates. Target plants will <br /> be controlled with the appropriate herbicide. <br /> This proposal is for$25,000.00 and would support the University of Hawaii,Pacific Cooperative Studies <br /> Unit, Big Island Invasive Species Committee to pay for the staff time and chemicals to conduct the sweeps <br /> and to control.the Devil Weeds.. <br /> Funds are from 2021-22 Fiscal Year Budget. <br /> JAN 1 0 ?..12, <br /> SIGNED: DATE: <br /> Departrn-nt Head: <br />
