I <br /> 1 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAIII *a STATE OF HAWAPI <br /> a <br /> RESOLUTION NO. <br /> 3 <br /> 'I <br /> A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AN INDEPENDENT UKRAINE AND CONDEMNING <br /> RUSSIAN MILITARY ASSAULT. <br /> WHEREAS, on February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation("Russia") launched an <br /> unprovoked military invasion on the sovereign democratic country of Ukraine; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ukraine is a large European country,rich in unique history, vibrant culture, <br /> and natural resources, and is seen as a key stronghold in preventing further Russian aggression <br /> across Europe; and <br /> WHEREAS, there is a long history of Russian aggression and genocide in Ukraine, <br /> including Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea and invasion of Donbas in recent years; and <br /> WHEREAS, Russia has launched air and land attacks on Ukraine, upending the lives of <br /> nearly 42 million and forcing civilians to flee their homeland, or take shelter from air raids in <br /> crowded subway stations; and <br /> WHEREAS, the international community has condemned Russia and expressed its <br /> support for Ukrainian integrity and independence, with historically neutral countries including <br /> Sweden, Switzerland, and Finland joining the international community in adopting sanctions <br /> against Russia and sending military munitions to Ukraine; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Republic of Belarus ("Belarus") has chosen to aide and support <br /> Russian aggression in Ukraine; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ukrainians who emigrated at the fall of the Soviet Union are returning back <br /> to their home country to join military members and civilians in defending their country with <br /> extraordinary resolve against their Goliath-like neighbor; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ukraine needs support to protect their homeland from this hostile invasion, <br /> and will need support to recover from the atrocities committed by Russia; now, therefore, <br />
