3. COVID-19 AND PROMOTING PUBLIC SAFETY AND
CONTRACTUAL OPERATIONS
Parcels 1 , 2, and 3. Because of the viral pandemic, COVID-19 related safety and
sanitation supplies are needed for volunteers, workers and the public. The Kona
Green Market is held at the Garden on Sundays and the public has access to the rest
rooms while the Market is taking place. Additionally, the Garden is also open on
Sunday for public access. We are requesting assistance to purchase basic supplies
(masks, gloves, cleaning supplies and hand sanitizer) and to contract with a janitorial
contracted service for one deep-clean per month. As is happening now, our volunteers
clean restrooms regularly. Signage on physical distancing, the required wearing of
masks, and hand washing are being placed in appropriate areas. Docents will be
given instruction on how to promote safe practices at the Garden, depending on the
current rules put in place by the State and the County. Masks, gloves, cleaning
supplies, and hand sanitizer will be available to the public when they visit, so having a
ready supply of these items is now part of the required items the Garden must have on
hand to accommodate the public.
All Parcels. We are requesting assistance to cover our liability insurance, which is a
safety and protection stewardship issue for the Garden and the County. We also
request funding for contract assistance both for bookkeeping throughout the project,
along with final report preparation. These are both essential to project accountability.
Significant volunteer resources assist with all aspects of the above.
Applicant Share and Other Resources: Section IV.A.3 details the Friends Volunteers
and Garden Manager (Bishop Museum) value of matches to this work.
TOTAL AMOUNT REQUESTED: $13,570
21
