REQUEST: <br /> The Department of Public Works Engineering Division requests a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter <br /> into an agreement with the United States Geological Survey (USGS)to continue the Cooperative Flood- <br /> Monitoring program on the Island of Hawaii. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED <br /> This agreement with the USGS is an annually budgeted, joint funding agreement where the County of <br /> Hawaii contributes $50,576 toward the flood-monitoring program for the collection of long-term systematic <br /> data of annual peak streamflow. The data collected is used to map flood-prone areas of land use <br /> management, and planning and design of flood management systems such as bridges, culverts, and levees. <br /> The agreement covers the cost of station operation and maintenance, quality assurance, real-time data <br /> display on the USGS website, and data archival. Data will be collected by the USGS and stored in the USGS <br /> National Water Information System database and made publicly available on the USGS website. <br /> The following amounts cover the cost of the necessary field analytical work directly related to this program for <br /> the period covering 10/1/22—9/30/23. <br /> County $50,576 75.5% <br /> USGS $16,384 24.5% <br /> Total $66,960 <br /> _ffSIGNED: DATE:JUL 1 12022 <br /> Department Head <br />
