FormB-52
7/16/ 1
DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources DATE: September 12, 2022
STAFF CONTACT: Jamielyn Martines PHONE: x6216
A. REQUEST:
Requesting to create 20 new unfunded temporary"on call" positions in the Department of Human
Resources. These new"on call' positions are part of a pilot program in partnership with the Department of
Parks and Recreation.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Department of Human Resources (DHR) and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) are
working on a pilot program to create"on call" positions. These positions will provide short-term, day-to-day
coverage for staffing shortages.
There are times, typically on the weekends and holidays, when DPR's parks maintenance crews are
extremely short handed due to numerous park caretakers calling in sick and rejecting overtime opportunities.
This often leaves the crews with 1 or 2 park caretakers in an entire district being responsible for the opening
of parks, cleaning restroom facilities, and disposing of rubbish at a time when the parks have the most
visitors.
With these "on call"positions, DPR will be able to ensure that park facilities are clean and safe for public
enjoyment.
SIGNED: DATE: q IYJy
epartment Head
