i
I
September 20, 2022, HSBC Meeting agenda Page 1 3 SptEA9
 g
i
FCOU tg
i
County of Maui
CM.King. 15 charter amendments, struggle is getting the information out so people
know what they are voting on. Just passed on second reading, one on reservation bill
requiring mapping of all the wetlands and expands the definition beyond the army
corp of engineers definition. Also passed a price guideline bill, trying to get in line
with all other counties with where they are. Very controversial thing, finally passed it
out. The investigation is
focused on the one house but there are other items to come off it. We had our former
director go to jail for money laundering. We have a lighting bill to protect the birds
and the turtles where they hatch and crawl back to land as they are following the
lighting on the shoreline. Another one of the environmental bills that we get a lot of
push back from. Similar to styrofoam and plastic bills. Hopefully that will pass next
week. We have a resolution asking the administration to look at joining the
sustainable tourism entity. We also have a bill being proposed to create the
commission on sustainable tourism.
CM Paltin: Sharing information on the two proposals for the HSAC legislative
agenda. Will come back to share these items on the agenda.
■City and County of Honolulu
CM Waters: Thank you to the big island for hosting us this week, especially enjoyed
the first section where we had the Presidents from NACo come talk to us. Interesting
that they are experiencing the same issues that we are. I also attended a League of
cities conference and hope we can learn from each other and encourage our
colleagues to research these people. The lunchtime conversation was fantastic,
900,000 visits to Hawaii last month. Amongst our group, we talk about that a lot
and how it impacts our communities. Good to get that out there. I want to
acknowledge we are also doing shoreline setbacks, part of what we learned we
