The Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended) is <br /> amended by adding a new chapter, relating to fire, to be designated chapter 17, and to read <br /> as follows: <br /> "CHAPTER 17. FIRE. <br /> Article 1. Hawaii County Fire Code. <br /> Division 1. General Provisions. <br /> Section 17-1-1. Title. This article shall be known as the fire code. <br /> Section 17-1-2. Purpose. The purpose of this article is to adopt the Hawai`i State Fire <br /> Code as required by section 107-28, Hawai`i Revised Statutes. This document incorporates, <br /> subject to amendment, the 2018 NFPA 1 and the 2018 Hawaii State Fire Code as adopted <br /> in section 12-45.4, Hawai`i Administrative Rule, January 19, 2021. <br /> [2018 HSFC: 1] <br /> Section 17-1-3. Scope. This article sets forth minimum requirements necessary to <br /> establish a reasonable level of fire and life safety and property protection from the hazards <br /> created by fire, explosion, and dangerous conditions. In this article, unless the context otherwise requires: <br /> "Annex" means the explanatory material attached to the NFPA 1, Fire Code 2018. <br /> "Authority having jurisdiction" or"AHJ"means the Hawai`i fire department. <br /> "Fire chief' means the fire chief of the Hawai`i fire department or the chiefs <br /> designee. <br /> "Fire department"means the Hawai`i fire department. <br /> "New construction"means the scope of a construction project currently permitted <br /> under chapter 5. <br /> "NFPA" means the National Fire Protection Association. <br /> [2018 HSFC: 3] <br />
