February 13, 2023, HSAC Fleeting Agenda Page ( 4 4SPSE
5
o'"eo wt`s'
Motion to receive the reports and approve. Approved.
c. NACo Report
CM Kuali`i: Have 15 of our 34 councilmembers from the State of Hawaii here. We
also have Chief of Staff Leo Caires here from the Maui Mayor's office. 30 resolutions
considered (less than usual) at the NACo Board meeting, these will be reviewed
again in the summer. Of the 30 policy resolutions, 29 of the 30 were approved. The
one that was not approved was a resolution supporting reducing federal funding,
overall cut. It was a close vote, so our 3 votes made the difference to postpone
indefinitely. CM Kierkewitcz gave an excellent presentation "Revitalize Pohoiki," a
creative place making project engaging residents in an intentional way.
Key speakers included the US Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Transportation,
US Surgeon General, Associate Attorney General. The Summit of Mental Health was
incredible. Will be hearing from President Biden tomorrow. 65 key resources were
shared, including the topics to take to the hill meetings.
Requesting people to get more involved with the committees, the deadline is April to
apply for some of the committees. This is where the final votes will happen in
committee on the policies.
CM Waters: There is a lot of money out there in federal funding and we will be
bringing a lot of info home to share on this.
CM Kuali ri: Need to work with MAyor administrations and go after the funds that
are there.
CM Addison Bulosan: You should have heard from or they should have reached out
to you to disperse the money.
CM Kimball: The .EPA has climate pollution funding, $250M for planning, and then
x'4.68 for implementation. We could do an HSAC ask. There is a webinar coming up
on the 15th. They have not put out the application yet, but it is a great source and we
have a lot of potential to go after these resources as a state impacted by climate
change.
