Form #: B-52
7/18/91
DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
DEPARTMENT: Hawaii Fire Department DATE: 12/4/2023
Michael Lam/Chris Honda/Darwin
STAFF CONTACT: Okinaka PHONE: 932-2900
A. REQUEST:
Request for a resolution for the acceptance of"gratis shipment" of three fire engines and four ambulances
from Young Brothers.
Jay Ana, President
Young Brothers
1331 N Nimitz Hwy, Piers 39/40
Honolulu, Hawaii 96817
(808) 543-9381
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The City & County of Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department donated four(4) ambulances and
they will be used primarily as backup units for our fleet in the event that the front-line vehicles go out of
commission. This process ensures no disruption of emergency medical services to Hawaii Island.
In addition, the Honolulu Fire Department donated one (1) 1997 Pierce Fire engine and two (2) 1999 Pierce
Fire engines to the Hawaii Fire Department. These engines will be utilized in our reserve fleet.
Young Brothers was our selected shipper. Through their Community Shipping Program, they shipped all
seven vehicles for free (gratis) and we only paid for the Wharfage charge. The total cost to ship all seven
vehicles from Honolulu to Hilo would have been $20,966.21. Instead, we paid a total of$4,480.52. Young
Brothers' donation saved the Hawaii Fire Department $16,485.69. We are very grateful to Young Brothers
and their Community Shipping Program.
SIGNED: DATE: (2 123
Department Head
