REQUEST: <br /> Pursuant to the Hawaii County Code section 2-139(a)(3)(A), Council approval is requested for a grant award <br /> of$45,000 to Newel Island Veterans Memorial (HIVM), Inc. a 501(c)(3) organization. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The Department of Parks and Recreation would like to provide a$45,000.00 grant to Newel Island <br /> Veterans Memorial (HIVM), Inc. for their project The Wall That Heals- Hawai'i County. The Wall That Heals <br /> is a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial located in Washington DC. The Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation has been working with a community-based committee led by members of the Hawai'i <br /> County Veterans Advisory Committee, other Veterans and community members to bring The Wall that Heals <br /> and Mobile Education Center to Hilo Bayfront for the period January 22nd through January 28th, 2024. With <br /> this collaborative effort,we hope to spread the healing legacy of The Wall That Heals as well as provide <br /> education about the impact of the Vietnam War.The Department of Parks and Recreation would like to <br /> provide funds to offset transportation cost. <br /> The department requests that this resolution be waived from Finance Committee and proceed directly for <br /> Council's review <br /> SIGNED: 7 6 / DATE: 1" 7/2,--3 <br /> Department Head <br /> County of Hawai'i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />
