Legislative Update: <br /> o Submitted the bills for drafting to Speaker Saiki and forwarded to Jon Okudara to <br /> begin drafting testimony. <br /> o Coordinating with the HSAC EC to attend in person and tour the Capitol on <br /> opening day, January 17, 2024. <br /> o Check with Jon Okudara on lobbying registrations, expenditure filings to ensure <br /> compliance with lobbying laws. <br /> 5. Conference Update: <br /> o Followed up on the request submitted for the IRS letter showing 501(c)(3)status. <br /> o Joined the conference planning conversations regarding the location and details <br /> for how to submit the deposit. <br /> o ED has started a conference guidebook containing a timeline of events and key <br /> elements that need to be planned out. <br /> CM Sue Lee Loy: Discussion on the Hawaii event in DC, partnering with the Chamber of <br /> Commerce and Hawaiian airlines. Sponsor checks have not yet come in, need to make a decision <br /> whether or not to proceed at this time. <br /> Discussion on attendees being all those who are at the NACo conference. <br /> Discussion on options for a future event and setting a date for fundraising earlier before the <br /> commitment must be made. <br /> CM Kiaaina: Suggestion to do an event in DC with leads of agencies and HSAC specifically. Or <br /> we could invite other states with a high percentage of pacific islander to align with the agencies <br /> invited. <br /> HSAC EC decided to table the DC event at this time. <br /> f. Legislative Report <br /> Jon Okudara: Recap of the HSAC bills for introduction, including family leave, and the <br /> emergency response on mortgage payments being temporarily stopped. <br /> Discussion on cesspool legislation and the need for HSAC to focus on this. <br /> CM Paltin: Cesspool and swerve connection is a big issue for Maui wildfire recovery, need a <br /> congressional or Presidential exemption or support to resolve this on Maui until they are able to <br /> rebuild. <br />
