REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br />DATE: August 21, 2024 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i <br />TIME: 9:02 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Re: Comm. No. 978/Res. No. 584-24 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 584-24, reports as follows: <br />Resolution No. 5 84-24, transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa via Communication <br />No. 978, dated August 1, 2024, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the Corporation <br />for National and Community Service. <br />This resolution allows for a cost -share agreement for up to ten Volunteers in Service to America <br />members with the County funding two members at a cost up to $45,764, and eight additional members <br />supported by AmeriCorps, to strengthen and supplement efforts to eliminate poverty -related human, <br />social, and environmental problems. <br />Research and Development Director Douglass Adams appeared via teleconference and provided a brief <br />background on this matter. <br />Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz asked if these individuals would be placed in the <br />Department of Research and Development or if other county departments would have an opportunity <br />to work with these volunteers.
