DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DEPARTMENT: <br />Civil Defense Aaenc <br />DATE: <br />9117/24 <br />STAFF CONTACT: <br />Talmadge rjo - CD Administrator <br />PHONE: <br />808-935-0031 <br />Requesting approval for a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a nine (9) year intergovernmental <br />license agreement with the University of Hawaii and the State of Hawaii for a radio repeater site. This <br />license agreement would expire December 31, 2033 (unless terminated sooner). <br />Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency desires to re-enter into a license agreement with the University of <br />Hawaii, a public body corporate and the public Licensor of the State of Hawai'i to continue to maintain a <br />newly installed amateur radio repeater on the summit of Mauna Kea for the purpose of an island -wide <br />community emergency radio communications network to facilitate the Hawaii County Auxiliary <br />Communications Service. This nine (9) year license agreement will support the Hawai'i County Civil Defense <br />Agency's desire to supplement its connectivity for the Island of Hawai'i by being allowed to maintain and <br />keep its recently installed repeater within a portion of the astronomy facility known as the University of <br />Hawai'i 2,2-meter Telescope Utility Building. <br />DATE,z4l- <br />=0 <br />
