The Hawaii Department of Transportation(HDOT)understands that the applicant <br /> proposes to construct a 104-unit multifamily housing development on an approximately 3.29-acre <br /> parcel in Hilo. The project will be accessed through Hualalai Street(county road). The nearest <br /> state highways are Waianuenue Avenue,approximately 0.75 miles to the west; Bayfront Highway, <br /> approximately 0.75 miles to the north;and Hawaii Belt Road,approximately 1.4 miles to the east. <br /> The Environmental Assessment(EA) is currently in progress and is estimated to be completed by <br /> December 2024. <br /> The HDOT has the following comments: <br /> 1. The HDOT has no comments on the requested 201H exemptions. <br /> 2. Based on the information provided,the HDOT does not anticipate an adverse impact to state <br /> highways;however,the draft EA traffic impact discussion should include the following: <br /> a. Jurisdiction of roadways in the vicinity. <br /> b. Location of existing and proposed site access driveways. <br /> c. Observations regarding existing traffic conditions in the vicinity of the site, <br /> including bicycle and pedestrian routes and location of transit stops. <br />
