Program/Service Objectives & Performance
The next set of questions will provide grant application reviewers a clear sense of what your proposal is designed
to accomplish and what is needed to get there. Please keep in mind that character counts include punctuation
and spaces.
1.In 1,000 characters,explain the community need the program/service intends to fulfill.Evidence(data/citations)
documenting the need must be provided.*
• Hawaii County Animal Control Services took in almost 3,000 animals in FY2023-24 and had to euthanize more
than 1,000 of them. They transferred more than 1,000 animals to rescues
(https://records.hawaiicounty.gov/WebLink/DocView.aspx?dbid=l&id=137730&page=l&cr=1)and many more
animals were taken in directly by the rescues. These statistics clearly show the need to control the
overpopulation of animals on our island.Abandoned and stray animals are a concern not only because of their
unnecessary suffering, but also because abandoned and stray animals that are scared and desperate to survive
pose a danger to livestock and even people. The more animals we can spay/neuter,the less breeding animals
there will be to continue population growth.Additionally, many financially challenged families and individuals
need assistance with medical issues that, without AIR's help, often result in surrendering their pet to a rescue or
abandoning them.
2.In bullet form, describe the ways your program/service advances the CHANGE category you selected?(500
character limit)*
•The program affords improved quality of life.
•Cost of living:Providing spay/neuter services and medical services such as vaccinations and parasite control at
no cost helps families keep their pet without having unwanted lifters and prevents diseases that are beyond the
means of many families to treat.
•Increases safety:Curbing animal overpopulation decreases abandoned and stray animals that pose a danger to
livestock and people.Providing basic medical care prevents the spread of diseases.
Please refer to Logic Model Guide below when filling out questions 3-6:
