EXHIBIT A <br /> MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR COOPERATION BETWEEN <br /> THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAFI <br /> for the benefit of <br /> THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAPI AT HILO <br /> AND <br /> THE HAWAPI POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> The University of Hawai'i., for the benefit of the University of Hawaii at Hilo (UH Hilo), and <br /> the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) (collectively, the "Pat-ties," or individually "Party") agree <br /> to cooperate on the Bachelor of Administration of Justice cohort program, based on the principle <br /> of reciprocity. <br /> This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) serves to clarify the expectations of each party and <br /> facilitate the successful admission and enrollment of HPD police officers as students in the <br /> Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Administration of Justice program at UH Hilo. The goals of the Parties <br /> are to: <br /> • Provide continued professional development for HPD officers to receive updates on laws, <br /> improve skills, enhance professionalism and policing, promote officer safety and <br /> well-being" and build community trust; <br /> • Use resources at both institutions efficiently and effectively to focus on creating a lasting <br /> collaboration; <br /> • Establish shared program responsibilities for student support to make the process of <br /> admission, enrollment., and completion as seamless as possible; and <br /> • Expand HPD officer student Opportunities for college success by ensuring program <br /> accessibility at UH Hilo. <br /> I. The parties shall endeavor to pursue the implementation of the following activities to <br /> address the Parties* goals: <br /> A. UH Hilo will coordinate a process to accept HPD officer applicants who meet UH <br /> Hilo's standard admissions, health, and enrollment requirements and deadlines. <br /> who will be eligible to join a cohort pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Administration <br /> of Justice through online coursework. <br /> B. Offer courses to cohorts of interested HPD officer students leading toward a BA <br /> degree in Administration of Justice during the regular academic year. <br /> I <br />
