3.6 Require the management of natural resources in a manner that fully minimizes adverse effects on <br />the environment and depletion of energy and natural resources. <br />3.7 Ensure that activities authorized or funded by the County do not damage natural resources. <br />3.8 Increase community -based stewardship that focuses on management responsibilities and <br />promote community education and shared learning. <br />1 <br />3.9 Improve community planning capacity -building efforts toward coordination, leadership, effective <br />action, connectivity; and impact. <br />3.10 Contribute to programs for the collection and dissemination of data concerning natural or cultural <br />resources. <br />3.11 Partner with government, private and nonprofit agencies, communities, and other stakeholders to: <br />a) Protect special areas, structures, and elements that are an integral and functional part of <br />Hawai`i's ethnic and cultural heritage. <br />b) Identify and protect wahi pans. <br />c) Promote the preservation and restoration of significant natural and historic resources. <br />d) Aid in programmatic education concerning historic sites. <br />e) Maintain the shoreline area for recreational, cultural, educational, and/or scientific uses in a <br />manner that is protective of resources and is of the maximum benefit to the public. <br />f) Encourage the documentation and preservation of traditional ecological knowledge, <br />identifying best management practices for integration. <br />Actions <br />3.a Contribute on a regular basis to state or federal Geographic Information System (GIS) data stores <br />and other programs for the collection and dissemination of basic data concerning natural, historic, <br />or cultural resources. <br />3.b Create special (business) improvement districts to engage in environmental research, restoration <br />and maintenance, natural resource management, climate change or sea level rise adaptation, or <br />other purposes to improve environmental conditions and provide community benefit. <br />Objective 4 <br />The historical integrity, character, scenic assets, and open spaces of our <br />communities are protected, restored, and treated as unique assets with significant <br />social and economic value and managed in perpetuity. <br />2.0 Collaborative Biocultural Stewardship I County of Hawaii General Plan 46 <br />
