Volpe <br />Temporary Fire Chief <br />RE: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO.25-45, AS AMENDED, THE <br />OPERATING BUDGET OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I FOR THE FISCAL YEAR <br />ENDING JUNE 30, 2026. <br />Please find the attached measure for the Council's consideration. <br />We respectfully request that this matter be referred to the appropriate committee. <br />The purpose of this budget amendment is to receive United States Department of Homeland <br />Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (hereinafter, "FEMA") through the Staffing <br />for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (hereinafter, "SAFER") grant funds of $271,447.00 <br />for this fiscal year ending on June 30, 2026. <br />These funds will be used for twelve (12) temporary slit -funded Fire Fighter positions, the <br />department will increase the number of firefighters to help communities meet industry minimum <br />standards and attain 24-hour staffing to provide adequate protection from fire and fire -related <br />hazards, and to fulfill traditional missions of fire departments. <br />Please reach out to Nikol K Lonokapu at (808) 932-2921 if you have any additional questions or <br />concerns. <br />Sincerely, <br />DANIEL J.
